Minutes of the Liverpool Anchorage Club Minutes for November 2011
1) The meeting opened at 1305, Derek in the Chair. There were 33 members present with apologies.
2) All present had received October's Minutes and agreed they were a true record.
3) Matters arising - Derek asked if anyone had done anything about a Club website. None.
Derek attended the Service on the Pierhead to commemorate the return of the Far East P.O.W.'s and the ships that brought them back to Liverpool in 1945. It was a deeply moving occasion. Prior to the meeting Derek visited the PLANET in Canning Dock, the owner, Alan Roberts, a member, has appointed a business manager to increase business. They thanked the Club for the whip-round at the Club which bought them a new Ensign, they are keeping it for special occasions ! The manager asked Derek if any members could recount the history of the Light Vessel to visitors. Stan McNally volunteered and John Wilkinson (1) said they have 25 CD's recounting the story !
4) Secretary's Report - Mike first thanked Neil Robertson for typing and despatching 2 months Minutes, much appreciated. He reported that he obviously had not attended anything recently but on the 8 th . October he had seen an article in the GUARDIAN about a Venue Company in London that wanted to run Parties involving liquor in Tower Hill Gardens with the approval of Trinity House, London. These gardens hold the M.N. Memorials for W.W. I and II and the Falklands War. Mike contacted a couple of Lists who immediately Emailed the relevant authorities protesting. Trinity House soon backed down when they realised how much ill feeling this was causing. It didn't take long before Tower Hamlet Licencing authorities backed down. Mike mentioned that the Club had had a whip-round recently to buy an Ensign for the PLANET. Stan McNally had received a letter from the Federation of Merchant Mariners thanking Stan for the £70 for the Red Ensign, they were pleased to receive this donation from the Anchorage Club and interested in Stan's work involving the PLANET.

Derek recently was talking to someone involved with the Tug DANIEL ADAMSON. He remarked that their appeal to the National Heritage Fund for 2.3 million Pounds was turned down on the grounds that too much money was being spent on ship renovation, i.e. the CUTTY SARK ! When she was laid up at Ellesmere Port, someone stole both Telegraphs, they asked the Curator of the Williamson Museum, Birkenhead if he knew of any Telegraphs to which he replied that they had a pair. The tug has now got them on permanent loan. When Derek commented on tours of the P/V EDWARD GARDINER, someone said you are very restricted where you can go due to Health and Safety !!
