(Website Updated 3rd January 2012)

Object: To promote and foster good relations between persons and organisations in the communities of Tyne, Wear and Blyth who are interested in maritime affairs
The Tyne Area Shipping Club was founded in 1974 by a group of like-minded men who shared a love for ships, shipping and all things nautical. Our present membership numbers over 80 people; they hail from various backgrounds mostly connected with maritime occupations - these range from all ranks of deck officers and engineer officers through the ratings having served or serving in merchant ships, offshore support vessels and tugs. River pilots, foyboatmen and so on - a number of our members simply like ships!
The club meets each second Thursday of the month at 1930 hours at the Old Ship public house Harton Village, South Shields - across the road from St Peter's Church. For full address see Meetings page or click Map and get directions.
Each month we have a guest speaker. The topics covered in these talks are refreshingly stimulating and wide-ranging and provide a good basis for discussion and questions - even more in the bar downstairs after the talk. The speakers and subjects are included under meetings.
Club members are encouraged to bring along guests to the meetings. Hopefully this way we can attract new members. If you would like to become a member request an application form on the contact page.
During the course of the year we plan to have outings to places of interest. We are open to suggestions for venues.
Shortly for example we are hoping to make a visit to the National Glass Centre Sunderland and to one of the oldest churches in the country St Peter's, Wearmouth Sunderland built by Benedict Biscop in AD 674. - All interesting stuff! ooOoo

Liverpool Anchorage Club For a number of years, our Club has met up with our friends of the Liverpool Anchorage Club. This club share similar interests to ours and it is great to meet with these guys and of course 'put the world to rights'
Initially we would alternately travel to Liverpool and they to South Shields respectively to meet up. However, in recent years, with the restriction of driving hours of the coach drivers, we have met at a convenient equidistant place of interest. This has proved to be popular.
